My 22-minute vacation

by | Feb 14, 2025

Yesterday, I spontaneously decided to take a much-needed vacation.

It completely shifted my energy, restored me, and gave me what I needed.

Where did I go? To the Coconut Grove pharmacy, by foot. You see, it’s day 10 of being with my client and their mother in hospice. The house was particularly busy with people. The nurses were present, and there was a small window where my presence wasn’t needed. And so off I went, both knowing and remembering that giving and service need to be from overflow.

I walked eight minutes to a sweet little neighborhood pharmacy, and on my walk, I stopped to breathe in the most beautiful gardenias, interacted with a small child, and paused for a parade peacocks to pass, while welcoming the sun on my skin.

When I arrived at my destination, I bought jasmine and sandalwood oil, two of my favorite scents, and as I walked back to the house, I breathed in all of the beauty that was present.

Twenty-two minutes later, I returned to the house from my vacation feeling rested and restored. Why am I referring to this as a vacation? Because a change in scenery, combined with time alone (aka introvert heaven) and no agenda, shifted my energy, and filled my cup in just 22 minutes.

Might there be a way for you to create your own restorative vacation the next time you feel depleted?
Here’s a thought, put down your to-do list, press pause, and approach what could seem mundane through a lens of beauty?

Love + Magic,

Amber
