Just sit

by | Jan 10, 2025

Don’t do something.
Just sit there… for a minute.

One of my clients shared this phrase with me earlier this week, amidst an intense family situation and noticing themselves being in a reactive state.

She said to me, I kept hearing my mother yell “Don’t just stand there. Do something.” and I knew it was time to change this family pattern.

Yes, action is important.
However, aligned action is more important.
And by important I mean, will create the results, the connection, the flow that we crave.

My own practitioner would say to me:
Treat, then move your feet…  meaning, get into alignment, pray, meditate, clear, whatever your practice is, then take action.

Are there exceptions?
Absolutely?
Watching the terrifying chaos of the fires in LA, I’ve been encouraging people I love to evacuate, not to wait until it becomes worse.
If you see a child running into the street, you’ll grab them without thinking.

However, how often do we make a choice out of reactivity?
Someone says something we don’t like, and we snap back with words that may be hurtful to both parties and are hard to retract.

Earlier this week, a woman shared with me that she got caught up in the surprise of a marriage proposal, and when sat still and got into alignment, she realized she wasn’t ready, and needed to have a hard but loving conversation.

And so as we navigate this thing called life, one of the questions I ask myself is, Is this important or is It truly urgent?

This question helps me to see where I’m creating urgency that isn’t true, because true urgency does require an immediate response.

So here’s my science lab for the week. When a situation arises that isn’t urgent, give yourself the grace of getting still.
Then move your feet, get to work and move from a generous overflowing space.

Love + Magic,
