Hands off

Last night, we had our first full frost.

As I stepped outside this morning, I felt completely delighted by the beauty, yet a little sad knowing that the roses on our dining table would be the last ones from the garden for the next six months.

I spent time up close and personal with the frost-covered flowers, plants, and grass beneath my feet (the original cryotherapy) as they were signaled to enter a deep, restorative sleep for the winter. This allows them to release the energy of summer growth (goodbye dead leaves) and redirect their resources into nurturing their root systems. I imagine them partying with their mycelium root friends, preparing to grow into new and abundant expressions next spring and summer.

Deep restorative sleep
Restoration and renewal
Abundant growth and expression

These cycles are as true for nature as they are for us humans.

There are short cycles and long cycles, and the timeline is deeply influenced by our willingness to let go. Whether you call it surrendering, putting it down, or redirecting your energy, it all means the same thing: hands off, rest and restore, maybe party a little with your friends (as I imagine my garden doing in winter), stop obsessing, and let the goodness emerge—perhaps better than you ever imagined!

Transformation can happen very quickly when we replace our desire for control with a commitment to flow.

For me, this is often how this blog appears. I don’t know, I don’t know, and then the idea comes and it flows.

It’s also how I deal with technology glitches—something that was once a great source of frustration. I do the things to get it to work, then I put it down, turn it off, walk away, and pour my energy into something that feels good. I let it go. And guess what? More than 90% of the time it works when I return to it. And when it doesn’t, it’s because I have only pretended to let go.

Why?
Because everything really is energy. There is life force in every thing.

Hands off
Let energy flow (to where it feels good)
Trust and receive

Just a little thought from my garden this morning, lessons from the cycle of life. I hope there’s something here for you.
Send me a field report. I love to read them.
