Returning from our walk, M turned to me and said, I need to learn the Overture from Cathedral.
I looked at him, puzzled.
Cathedral is my favorite of his albums—recorded at St. John the Divine in New York City in 1985. I’ve listened to it thousands of times over four decades. So have my clients, my yoga students, babies entering this world, and souls departing in my presence.
M explained that he had been asked to play it at a funeral this weekend and needed to learn it.
But you play it for me all the time while I’m in the tub, I said.
He nodded. Yes, variations. But she wants the exact piece—and I recorded it in your favorite state: presence.
That stopped me in my tracks. I had never considered that he didn’t know my favorite piece of music that I have literally played 1000s of times…
Yet, I realized it was my favorite because of the state he embodied during that recording: Presence. The thing I most crave. The thing I value above all else.
When we are truly present, we are sharing our greatest gift—whether to our partner, our child, our clients, or the world at large. Presence allows our essence to flow, and when mixed with our wisdom and talents, something magical happens.
This is where our best ideas and solutions emerge. This is where healing unfolds. This is where love is embodied.
In a state of presence everything we truly want is available. And presence amplifies everything good: love, joy, beauty, healing, abundance and flow.
Here’s your science lab for the week: the next time you feel depressed, distracted, sad, lonely, something other than how you want to feel, get present. How, you ask? Listen to your breath, land your eyes on something alive and/or beautiful, play a song that lights you up, dance, move, sing, get into your body, play, experiment..
Then, notice how very good it feels. And do it some more. You may notice that everything begins to feel a little bit (or a lot) better.
Send me a field report, I love to read them.
Love + Magic,
